As November unfolded, I saw our little girl's birth date on a document and something stirred in the back of my mind. We had only been on this adoption journey for less than 2 months but were moving quickly because of her fragile condition. That little something kept bothering me. What had I heard about orphans once they turned seven? I vaguely remembered something about orphans at seven years old, sent to another kind of institution where they didn't get the same level of care as at the orphanage. Our little one has stage 2 malnourishment and needs more care, not less. I had heard that perhaps they wouldn't tube feed her and that is the only way she can eat at present.
I began to email our facilitator in the country. She is amazing...very helpful, very thorough and very compassionate. At first, my emails contained other questions and answers to those were what my replies contained. As days passed, I began to get a little bit more concerned that we find out about her status at the orphanage. I know now that God was persisting in keeping my thoughts on this. Finally, I asked our facilitator that question alone and asked our growth group from church to join us in praying that we would get an answer.
So with less than 2 weeks remaining before her seventh birthday, our facilitator replied that she had inquired and indeed our little girl was scheduled to be moved. Because we had inquired of the country and stated our intention to adopt her by name and sent power of attorney to our facilitator (all her direction to us), she was able to take documents that proved we were in process and they were able to keep our little one in the orphanage till everything is completed for her adoption and we bring her home.
How different this story might have turned out! Thank you God for the unseen plans you have for this little one's life.
